Marriott Bonvoy American Express Cards: Earn Up to 110,000 Points!

5 days ago 12

American Express has rolled out elevated referral offers on the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card and the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Card, with total bonuses of up to 110,000 points available on each card.

These offers are extremely compelling, so If you are building up a balance for a big trip, or just want more Free Night Awards in your life, these offers are worth a serious look.

Amex Bonvoy Card: Earn Up to 110,000 Points!

The personal Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card now has a two-stage referral offer that matches its previous all-time high total bonus, but with a much lighter spending requirement than before:

  • Earn 80,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $6,000 in your first 6 months as a new cardholder
  • Earn 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points when you make a purchase in your 15th month of cardmembership

Based on our current valuations, we value Bonvoy points at 0.8 cents per point, meaning that we’d value 110,000 Bonvoy points at $880; however, they can indeed be redeemed for much higher value than that, if used strategically.

For example, 110,000 Bonvoy points could be enough for a two-night stay at an aspirational resort, such as Le Méridien Maldives, or at a higher-end property in Canada, such as JW Marriott Parq Vancouver on select dates.

Book Le Méridien Maldives for around 55,000 points per night

If you’d rather redeem your points at more modest properties, 110,000 points should cover five nights at a mid-tier hotel with the fifth night free benefit, or six or more nights at select lower-end properties.

Once you’ve earned the welcome bonus, there’s a strong argument to be made for keeping the card long-term, due to the annual Free Night Award worth up to 35,000 points.

With the ability to top up the Free Night Award with up to 15,000 points, you can redeem it at a property costing up to 50,000 points per night.

This perk alone can easily cover a night during your travels or even a quick weekend getaway within Canada.

Ideally, you could time your application in advance of a number of hotel stays, thereby working on the minimum spending requirement while sticking with the 5x multiplier at Marriott properties.

Indeed, this card is one that we recommend to have as a key part of your credit card travel strategy.

Amex Bonvoy Business Card: Up to 110,000 Points!

Meanwhile, the offer on the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Card has also been refreshed for this round, with a slightly lower welcome offer than the historical high, and a slightly higher spending requirement than the personal version.

Currently, you can earn 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy points upon spending $10,000 (all figures in CAD) in the first six months.

It’s not as eye-catching as the 130,000-point all-time high we saw previously; however, given that the old offer required a hefty $30,000 in spending to unlock the full bonus, this version is much more realistic for many small business owners.

If you have upcoming Marriott stays or want to build your Bonvoy balance for future redemptions, it’s still a very solid opportunity.

At Prince of Travel, our favourite tool to pair with minimum spending requirements is Chexy, a Canadian platform that allows you to pay a host of bills – including rent, tuition, utility bills, car lease payments, property taxes, and much more – with a credit card and earn points.

Most small business owners can’t earn credit card points on their biggest monthly expenses because suppliers and the CRA don’t accept credit cards directly, or they charge a large fee to do so. Chexy fixes all of that. With its small business offering, you can pay virtually any expense with a credit card—while earning points and boosting cash flow.

The business version has a $150 annual fee, which is $30 higher than the personal card, but the additional points can easily justify that difference.

This card also comes with an annual Free Night Award worth 35,000 points, starting with your first anniversary as a cardholder.

The Bonvoy cards are great choices as keeper cards, since the value of a Free Night Award worth 35,000 points will easily exceed the $120 annual fee on the personal card or the $150 annual fee on the business card. The sooner you get started with these cards, the better.

  • Also, receive an annual Free Night Award worth 35,000 Bonvoy points starting in your second year with the card

Amex Bonvoy Cards: 15 Elite Qualifying Nights + Anniversary Free Night Award

In terms of the cards’ earning rates, you’ll earn the following:

  • 5 points per dollar spent at Marriott hotels
  • 2 points per dollar spent on all other purchases

On the business card, you’ll also earn 3 points per dollar spent on gas, dining, and travel purchases.

It’s best to use Canadian Bonvoy cards purely for spending at Canadian Marriott hotels, as the 5x earnings are unbeatable there. However, you can prioritize other cards with higher earning rates for other general purchases.

(Marriott hotels outside of Canada are also not ideal, thanks to the card’s 2.5% foreign transaction fee. If you have a US-issued Bonvoy card for foreign hotel bills, you won’t get dinged on the foreign exchange fee.)

Both the personal and business Marriott Bonvoy cards offer 15 elite qualifying nights towards your Marriott Bonvoy status every year. By holding onto one of them, you’d only need to complete 35 elite qualifying nights to reach a total of 50, where Platinum Elite status and all of its associated perks start to pay off.

Unfortunately, the two sets of 15 elite qualifying nights cannot be stacked into 30 – that’s only possible with the US-issued personal and business cards, not the Canadian ones.

If you hold the following combination of Marriott Bonvoy co-branded credit cards…

You will receive…

Canadian personal + Canadian business

15 elite qualifying nights

Canadian personal + US personal

As mentioned above, the most meaningful perk on the Bonvoy card is the anniversary Free Night Award, which you’ll earn upon renewing the card for a second year.

These are worth up to 35,000 Bonvoy points each, so a smart redemption here would easily outweigh the card’s $120 and $150 annual fees.

You’re also able to top-up your Free Night Award by up to 15,000 Bonvoy points, thus booking a property that’d otherwise cost up to 50,000 Bonvoy points.

Conclusion

With the latest referral offers, the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is back at its historical high total bonus of 110,000 points, now paired with a much more manageable $6,000 minimum spend, while the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Card offers 110,000 points as well, trading a slightly lower headline figure than the old 130K record for a dramatically easier $10,000 spend target instead of $30,000.

If you can comfortably meet the spending requirements, both cards present an excellent window to boost your Bonvoy balance for future redemptions, especially if you have Marriott stays on the horizon.

On top of the upfront bonus, the combination of 15 elite qualifying nights each year and an annual 35,000-point Free Night Award (with the ability to top up by 15,000 points) means that keeping either card into the second year isn’t just acceptable, it’s usually the smart move.

Add in tools like Chexy to help with minimum spend, and these Bonvoy offers are well worth a look before they wrap up on April 7, 2026.
